National Law Enforcement Day is January 9th

Today, January 9th, is National Law Enforcement Day! On this day, and every day, we should pause to Remember, Honor, and say Thank You to all police officers and law enforcement personnel, and let them know that we appreciate their service and sacrifice.

Although the Beyond the Badge 5K event has ended, we continue to honor those officers, past and present, through our scholarship fund, which assists students studying law enforcement and public safety. Please consider donating to this fund. Thank You!

Several Recipients Recently Graduated from the Law Enforcement Academy!

Chase Simpson, Ingrid Ortega, and Reece Thompson, all past scholarship recipients, graduated from the Law Enforcement Academy this past Saturday (Aug 14, 2021). All three are great examples of what the Beyond the Badge 5K event’s proceeds go towards. Reese will be the featured speaker at the event this year, and all of them will be present, so come out and congratulate them! The Jason M. Baker Foundation, Inc. was established in 2002 by Jason’s family in memory of his dedication to service, community, and country. The Foundation is a 501(c)3 Not for Profit Organization that provides scholarship assistance to students pursuing a career in public safety. To find out about past recipients of the scholarship, please visit our recipients page. The scholarship is funded by proceeds raised through the Beyond the Badge 5K Run & Walk as well as corporate and private donations.

Beyond the Badge 5K Scheduled for Sunday, Sept 19th!

Greetings all! I hope you and yours made it safely through 2020.  The pandemic affected many of us personally and we hope you are moving forward.  With the roll out of the vaccine and promises made by government we anticipate full participation for this years 20th Anniversary event Sunday September 19th, 2021.

Our public safety officers remained on the front lines, providing all their usual services during 2020.  Over 250 Law Enforcement officers & 35 Firefighters died as a result of Covid-19. My purpose in this message is to ask for your support for our public safety officers by registering now for the 20th Anniversary event. You can register on our website by visiting heroesofpublicsafety.org/registration/.  Please consider registering early to help us provide additional scholarships to those with the integrity, bravery and service mindset to serve their respective communities.

Sincerely,
Jerry Baker

About our scholarship winners: Reece H. Thompson

Reece Thompson

Reece is our newest scholarship recipient. He is a sophomore at the O’Neill School, majoring in Public Safety with a minor in Civic Leadership. Like Jason, Reece started his love for public safety early on and is very involved in his local community. He’s had the honor of wielding the torch in the Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay, recognized as a United Way 100 Hero, and founding father and Vice President of Standards for his fraternity, Alpha Sigma Phi. Reece is currently an Eagle Scout after graduating as a Boy Scout Explorer with the Noblesville Police Department. He’s focused on his future goals with public safety, hoping to work for a local police department and pursue a career with the federal government. We congratulate Reece on his already amazing achievements! Help us continue to find the future of Public Safety by showing your support and donating or registering for the race on our website. Welcome to the family Reece!

About our scholarship winners: Shelby Cleek

Shelby is currently a sophomore at IU-Bloomington pursing a degree in informatics with a minor in psychology. Like Jason, Shelby is a second-generation law enforcement officer. In 2016, Shelby attended the FBI Youth Leadership Program in Quantico, Virginia and her passion for the field grew stronger. She plans to join the IU cadets and pursue a career in federal law enforcement. She is “excited for the future and very thankful for Jason Baker and his family. This scholarship has given me an additional motivation and reason behind my dreams.” It’s because of you that Shelby is able to continue her passion for this type of work. Show your support for her and others by registering for the race or donating on our website. Keep going Shelby!

About our scholarship winners: Alex Clausius

Alex is actually one of two scholarship winners from the 2018-2019 school year that we, as a family and event committee decided to renew again for this year. Alex has done so much since we met with him just a few months ago. This summer he traveled to London to study abroad with the O’Neill school and learn about national and homeland security both here and in the United Kingdom. He also had the opportunity to listen to experienced guest speakers from the GCHQ, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, US Secret Service and US Department of State. Because of your generous donations and continued support throughout the years, Alex was afforded this scholarship which is allowing him to focus more on his studies in public service, participation in clubs, as well as numerous volunteer opportunities within the Indianapolis community that will help him in the years to come as he works toward a career in the FBI. “Receiving this scholarship has given me perspective on what it actually means to be a police officer and a good person like Jason. I will continue to hold the values of service, community, and country like Jason and continue to spread his legacy.” – Alex – We are so proud of you, Alex!
